Great Starting Point

Obviously this guy knows what he is talking about. The writing style is quite entertaining as well. I think this book is great motivation if someone is serious about moving to a more "self-sufficient" lifestyle. A lot of the technical aspects of the projects in here are left out. This is not a "how to" book but more of a planner. I would recommend this as a entertaining read as well as a good reference.

This book was purchased with the idea that some day may come to living entirely on ones own, and off the 'grid.'
In our area of the world, it is more common than not. The how to's in this book reassure you the title's ease. Very informative, good instruction, simple to follow guidelines~ from building a timber cabin to starting your own tilapia pond. Good section on chickens and coops. We intend to utilize the chicken coop design first!

The theme for the forum was reasoning about uncertainty in the context of making informal statistical inferences. Over a period of seven days, this group of researchers presented, discussed, and examined research related to the forums theme of reasoning about uncertainty in the context of making informal statistical inferences. The research at SRTL-8 covered many different facets (e.g., use of technology and students' classroom articulation) and explored several different populations of students (primary, secondary, and tertiary levels), adults, and even teachers of statistics. The chapters in this book constitute a subset of that research, and reflect the variation in both the populations and topics studied.

This is an excellent resource for those seeking to understand the underpinnings of statistical education and reasoning about variability and uncertainty. The book contains 6 chapters edited by Andrew Zieffler and Elizabeth Fry of the University of Minnesota. Each chapter tackles a different but related question of how students and preservice teachers understand (or misunderstand) statistical and probabilistic concepts. All are highly accessible and relevant to the increased focus on statistics, probability, and modeling in the Common Core State Standards in the US (and related curricular efforts worldwide). I recommend this for many purposes, including a journal club reading group or use in a statistics education class or seminar.

About the Author
Philip Morehead is Head of Music Staff for Lyric Opera of Chicago. He is the son of the late Albert H. Morehead, lexicographer and games expert, the original co-editor of this book, who was Bridge Editor of the New York Times for over 25 years and the editor of many books on games. He is editor of The New American Webster Handy College Dictionary and The New American Rogets College Thesaurus and is author of The New American International Dictionary of Music. He lives in Chicago with his wife Patricia, oboist and composer.

a great buy

I bought this book because, although I love card games, I play pretty infrequently and often forget the rules. This book contains rules and generally clear descriptions of play for an incredibly long list of games. In addition to card games, the book covers many board games, such as Scrabble and chess, and even a few computer games. There is no question that there are books that cover individual games in much more depth, but it's hard to argue with the low price of this volume when it comes to the sheer number of brief descriptions of games that it offers. Highly recommended to have on hand.

I first bought this book over a dispute in poker I had with a friend. You can imagine my shock when I found out he was right. Since then, the cover has been worn off my copy from repeated use. This book is great for settling disputes and learning new games. A must have for anyone who plays cards.

This book is great reading

"My Left Foot" is about a young man, born in 1932 to a Dublin bricklayer, with cerebral palsy who cannot even control his limbs let alone write his own autobiography. He starts off with his childhood: his relatives and doctors are telling his mother that he will amount to nothing; he was a moron. But his mother never gives up on him, for she knew that inside his useless body was a very capable mind. She teaches him to write with his left foot. By the time he's five years old, he knows his whole alphabet! He goes on and tells about his life growing up with twelve other siblings. He speaks of how the startling realization, that he was not like everyone else, changed his life. And he finishes with how he finds inside himself what he had all along. Christy Brown really shows his talent for writing in "My Left Foot". He tells his story without ever being depressing and sulky and there are parts that will just make you laugh out loud, especially when he talks about his first attempts at writing his autobiography.
The movie is also great; Daniel Day-Lewis, in his Oscar winning role, is excellent. It gave the book the recognition it deserved as being a great piece of classic literature

My Left Foot

I found Christy Brown's My Left Foot to be a fascinating read. It is the story of Christy's life and all the struggles he must overcome. Despite his disabilities, he was a multi-published author and an accomplished artist. He manages to do all these tasks with the use of his left foot.
I would recommend this book to anyone, but especially to a parent of a disabled child. The story gives hope and inspiration. Being the mother of a child with cerebral palsy myself, I could really relate to the events in the novel.

The book "My Left Foot", was one of the best books I have read. It tells the life story of Christy Brown and how he still lived his life while his little body was twisted with a disease. I found it very touching at times and it made me happy to when he would over come bumps in his life. When he first made the letter "A" I was smiling from ear to ear.
I would recommend this book to for anyone to read, especially to a mother with a disabled child. It really proves that no matter who you are, you can do anything you put your mind to.
I can't wait to see the movie!
