About the Author
Dan Jurgens is a writer and artist most famous for creating Booster Gold as well as for being one of the main forces behind "The Death of Superman." He has written and/or illustrated titles such as JUSTICE LEAGUE AMERICA, Captain America, The Sensational Spider-Man, Thor, TEEN TITANS, AQUAMAN, DC's Tangent imprint, and the DC crossover known as ZERO HOUR.

Karl Kesel loves his job far more than he has any right to. Over the past 25 years he has written, inked, and occasionally penciled most of the major comics publishers' major characters -- including Superman, Superboy, Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, and Captain America -- although he has an inexplicable fondness for minor, obscure characters no one else remembers.

Jerry Ordway has been writing, drawing,and painting comic books professionally since 1980 - specifically on such titles as ALL-STAR SQUADRON, CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS, SUPERMAN, POWER OF SHAZAM, WildStar, Fantastic Four, Avengers, Tom Strong, WONDER WOMAN, The Messenger, and Proton.

Louise Simonson began her career in comics as an editor for Warren Publications, and went on to work at both Marvel Comics and DC,where she garnered acclaim for her writing on X-Factor, Power Pack, New Mutants, SUPERMAN: MAN OF STEEL,STEEL, and WORLD OF WARCRAFT. She is the author of the graphic novel Snow White and the Seven Robots.

Roger Stern has written for radio, television, the stage, and the Internet, creating scripts for everything from sketch comedy to flash-animation. For ten years, he was the senior writer of the Superman series, and has written hundreds of stories about such diverse characters as Green Lantern, Supergirl, Starman, and the Justice League for DC Comics; and Spider-Man, Captain America, the Incredible Hulk, and the Avengers for Marvel. His first prose novel, The Death and Life of Superman, was a New York Times bestseller.

It might make readers depressed, but it will inspire them to not give up. That life goes on and the spirit of hope can rise again.

Great book: requires rewrite/revision; excellent for concept

Colloidal Dispersions is an excellent text, both for graduate students and for physicists/physical chemists foraying into the field of colloidal dispersions. The book starts by talking about particle hydrodynamics, then introduces Brownian motion and follows it up with description of different interaction forces experienced by colloidal particles. Thereafter, it discusses the thermodynamics of polymer in solution, how it affects the forces between the particles. In following chapters, it details the electrokinetic phenomena, and the physics of polymer mediated and charged mediated stabilization. The last few chapters return to dynamics again, with a chapter each devoted to sedimentation and rheology!

The book is beautifully written, and most of the material is useful as it is. Since this book was written in 1989, it requires a revision to bring it to the level of current understanding. The whole realm of nanoparticles is based on principles described here, as is the field of colloidal self-assembly. With a revision and few additions here and there, and maybe addition of some references to the work done between 1989-2005, the book can be made into workhouse of all colloidal scientists. I highly recommend this book to everyone interested in understanding the physical behavior of colloids. Coming with a background in Statistical Mechanics would be certainly helpful, and for people with training in Polymer Physics, the book can be understood by drawing analogies with the concepts used there. This is one of the best book in terms of the balance between the use of equations and words used to present physical picture and definitely one everyone in the field must read:) But as I said before, I will be greatly indebted to authors if they bring out a revised edition: I hope they do so soon!!

Good for Grad Students

This book, despite not being updated for about a decade, is still at the top of its class... This book should be on the desk of every scientist who is interested in interparticle forces. This book covers the theory and the development of colloid science from its early days to modern times. It is likely to be useful for theorists who will lean on the math and good references in the book and useful to experimentalists who seek to understand interparticle forces. Most experimentalists will probably also want to buy Jacob Israelachvili's book, which I haven't read much of, but I know Israelachvili is the man behind the surface forces apparatus (SFA), so many who seek to measure the interparticle forces described in WBR's book will want Jacob's book as well.
I am a graduate student at Princeton, home to the authors, and, not surprisingly, this book is a strong reflection of two courses in the chemical engineering department called Colloidal Dispersions I and II. I'm taking the series now, and, if you are in the class, you already know you need the book, and you shouldn't be reading this review.
I'd give the book 5 stars instead of 4, but I feel that it needs to be updated to reflect the increasing use of computer simulations (Note that I am biased, as a computer person) and new developments in colloid science. And lastly, though I feel the book is highly readable, the math is intense, and I suspect there are many scientists and engineers (myself included) who will have wished WBR had skipped fewer steps. Largely though, you can't blame the authors for that. The book would be a million pages long if they didn't skip steps. Try to use the extensive references to fill in the steps in the math if possible.
On a value basis, a 4 star book that costs only 2/3 what you usually pay means you are getting a steal here.

If you are intersted in colloidal forces this is a great text. it does not have a huge breadth of information but it does a very good job of covering what makes colloids stable. it covers DLVO theory solutions in several geometries, taking PB theory pretty much as far as it can go. Well, you can go further, but its pretty good.

Very helpful, a bit complicated but understandably so

Overall, if you suffer from anxiety and it is affecting your relationship, this is definitely a targeted, worthwhile read.

From my impression, this book is geared towards people who have a recognized anxiety disorder and perhaps also have some existing experience in therapy/know their triggers. It is important to note that in order to get to the point of being able to complete the exercises one must be pretty aware of their anxiety and some comfortable knowledge of how anxiety feels in your body.

The exercises provide some concrete behavioral practices that can help with anxiety. A prescribed regimen like this really provided me with hope. Where therapy has often helped me unpack the "why" of my anxiety, this was the first concentrated dose of "what to do"

That said, I had trouble with this book because my anxiety is specifically in the realm of dating and relationships - not any of the types of clinically recognized anxiety talked about in this book (if you are curious about learning more about relationship/dating anxiety - "If this is love, why do I feel so insecure?" is a good source of info but the solutions section is very weak).

This book is written for people who have an established/committed relationship. It doesn't mention the areas of "dating while struggling with anxiety" or "dealing with relationships ending because of anxiety" These are two very important parts on the relationship continuum that I wished they at touched upon at least a little bit. I haven't found a good source about dating anxiety so this was a good proxy which I adapted for myself.

The exercises are quite complex and might take a bit of time to master. I find myself having trouble remembering what I had to do so had to interrupt my practice often to check in with the book. The authors do mention that this will need to be approached slowly and you will need to persist "practice makes permanent."

I found some of the exercises more helpful than others and recommend that you don't necessarily follow things to a tee, pick and choose what works for you.

One tip: the four-square breathing technique requires you to hold your breath for four counts after you have exhaled for four counts. I found this incredibly stressful and uncomfortable. I mentioned this to my therapist and he advised me not to do this as holding the breath can cause a sense of panic and release of associated stress hormones, making anxiety worse. As a physician, I considered from a physiological standpoint and agree. Instead, I decided to just do an up and down breath - four counts in and four counts out - I felt a lot better doing it this way.

All in all, this is the best book I've read thus far on this topic so would recommend it with the above caveats.

An Amazing Experience

Most people experience anxiety in some manner, and go through life without resolution or understanding. Anxiety can be terrifying, and frustrating for a partner who lacks understanding. I am recommending this very creative book to individuals and couples to help them become more compassionate, empathic and accepting. Anxious in Love affords individuals and couples an opportunity to learn more about anxiety, and how you and/or your partner can face the challenge of increasing connection and overcoming the stress and conflict that stands in the way of desired happiness and love.

Everyone should own this book

Everyone experiences anxiety. And everyone experiences conflict in the relationships in their lives. What few people realize is that anxiety is almost always part of the conflicts we all face every day.

Dr. Daitch and Ms. Lorberbaum have written a book filled with excellent background information and practical solutions that address anxiety, a common roadblock to healthy interactions and interpersonal intimacy.

If everyone could practice the principles, beautifully presented in this book, the quality of our collective lives would improve dramatically. This is a book that will be read and used for many years to come.
