Since I already have "Manufacturing Processes for Design Professionals", this book doesn't go much further. If you don't want to spend so much money with the big one, buy the little one. It's fine.

This is like the ABC's of low-volume production

Get this if you don't want to spend money on "Manufacturing Processes for Design Professionals" by the same autor. This is basically the abridged version of it, but is really lacking in my opinion. Spend the money on the larger book if you actually want a valuable resource.

My instructor said this was a companion to the larger book. It is not. This is like the ABC's of low-volume production.

Nora Ephron, best known for her screenplays When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle, and Silkwood and best sellers Heartburn and Crazy Salad, has written a sort of Ephron retrospective. Though humorously self-deprecating and poignant, critics agree that the essays, some published previously,are uneven. Readers may love "I Hate My Purse"—unless they find it outdated. Other essays came off as vain, stale, or elitist in their carefree attitude toward luxury items. Only "Considering the Alternative" received uniform praise for its generous introspection. Despite the collection's lightweight feel, Ephron still writes "like someone who has something useful and important to tell her readers" (Los Angeles Times). "When your children are teenagers," for example, "it's important to have a dog so that someone in the house is happy to see you."

Enough with denial - embrace it ;-)

I've loved Nora Ephron ever since Sleepless In Seattle and You've Got Mail. Heartburn (which she wrote) turned into a hit film, and so I knew when I saw that she wrote another book again, I thought I'd pick it up. It's a collection of amusing essays all about growing older.
She says that there are so many books out there about what to do after menopause etc, but none addressed your neck change as you age so she thought this was a cute and funny title.
She talks about maintenance being a second career because a lot of women are pre-empting age. For example, hair dying, botox etc. She talks about her husbands theory of women either being birds, muffins or horses and that is the shape of your face. If you are a muffin, you can have a zillion face lifts and be fine, but other shaped faces - not so much.
She talks more seriously about reaching 60 and start loosing friends. You have to come to grips with reality and realise that we aren't invincible and won't die - it's getting closer to being on the cards.
She also mentions things she wishes she'd known; You can't be friends with people who call after 11pm, Write everything down, Back up your files etc. She's very funny (a very dry sense of humour) and it shows through this book. It's a good read that is sometimes serious but overall will be thoroughly enjoyable and entertaining. If you are a fan of her movies, you will definately love I Feel Bad About My Neck ...

Witty, clever but leightweight...

Nora Ephron is witty, clever and has her finger on the pulse of American women everywhere in her delightful book, I Feel Bad About My Neck: and Other Thoughts on Being a Woman. My only complaint is that at 137 pages (and small pages at that), it's a rather lightweight book.

Ephron writes about so many of the problems we women face: hairstyles, maintenance routines, raising children, empty nesting, reading glasses, cooking, purses, living in New York City, aging, and the death of good friends. Some of her observations are brutally honest. She talks about how a neck is a telltale sign of aging. "The neck is a dead giveaway. Our faces are lies and our necks are the truth. You have to cut open a redwood tree to see how old it is, but you wouldn't have to do that if it had a neck." She has a refreshing list of "What I Wish I'd Known" including "Never marry a man you wouldn't want to be divorced from" and "The empty nest is underrated."

I' m not real big on make-up routines, I wear glasses all the time and love my poker-straight hair. So some of her musings I found funny but didn't necessarily relate. But where Ephron and I see eye to eye is about reading. "Reading is everything. Reading makes me feel I've accomplished something, learned something, become a better person." One of my favorite chapters is "On Rapture," about the state of rapture she feels when she discovers a good book. She also lists some books that changed her life. The chapters where she discusses reading are the best in the book.

I Feel Bad About My Neck got raves from most of the book critics that reviewed this book. While I enjoyed it, I just was expecting more from Ephron.

Hilarious, witty, thought provoking

I didn't remember purchasing this book & started reading it one night having no idea what it was about. By chapter 2 I had to stop so I could look to see who the author was. I was literally laughing out loud every chapter of this book. I want to tell Nora Ephron my life story (mostly just the last 3 years - enough for a lifetime) and have her put it in words so that one day my daughter can read it and laugh rather than cry. That's what Nora does, she makes even the saddest things somehow funny & endearing. I loved this book!!

Site Hacked? Read Cracking Drupal!

Cracking Drupal: A Drop in the Bucket was everything I'd hoped it would be, and more.

I know that's a cliche, but when I first learned about Greg Knaddison's book (greggles in Drupal-land), I'd assumed it would be aimed primarily at Drupal contributed module developers. By the time I finished the excellent book about Drupal security, I realized it was an essential read for anyone connected with developing, theming, or maintaining a Drupal site.

I had been anticipating the release of Knaddison's book for months, as I've been a fan of his for some time, due in part to his active and helpful role in Drupal's forums, and to his work with the Security Team. After reading the book, I feel more secure than ever using Drupal, as its well-documented API and best practices ensure that any module maintainer adhering to them will produce rock-solid code. At the same time, it quite visibly demonstrates the importance of an active community to ensure the modules and themes we use do just that.

Let's look in more detail at the book.

Part One, "Anatomy of Vulnerabilities", offers an extensive overview of the predominate routes of attack that may be taken against a site. It's split logically into two chapters by vulnerabilities possible with Drupal or its contributed modules and themes, and by potential weaknesses introduced by a poorly configured or poorly maintained server environment.

The first two chapters, "That Horrible Sinking Feeling" and "Security Principles and Vulnerabilities outside Drupal", jump right into outlining the more commong things that could expose your site to attack. By beginning with this acopolyptic message. Greg grabs the reader's attention and embues a sense of dread and hopelessness. Fortuntely, he doesn't leave us hanging, and immediately shows us in the next part, "Protecting against Vulnerabilities", relatively easy configurations and optional modules that can buttress our sites with defenses against some of the more common lines of attack, such as tools to subscribe a site for security updates, enforcing strong passwords and reducing the risks of persistant sessions.

Chapter 4, "Drupal's User and Permissions System", begins the section most exciting to me as a developer, by describing the API and hooks offered by Drupal to help create more secure code. It offers, for example, and in-depth examination of the famous t() function, showing its dual nature as an aid to translation and internationalization, and (when used properly) as an easy method to automatically filter user input from XSS attacks. Then, as the title implies, the bulk of that chapter offers an in-depth overview of the user and permission system, and how the menu system hooks into it.

Chapter 5, "Dangerous Input, Cleaning Output", begins with an exciting foray into the database API for Drupal. It covers safely using the database functionality for Drupal 6 and earlier, and the new, improved, and evermore secure system we can look forward to for Drupal 7. It then meanders into sanitizing output, and applying lessons learned to form building.

We learn in Chapter 6 about best practices for developers who work at the theme level (or themers), beginning with an overview of Drupal's theming system and PHPTemplate. The overview is particularly valuable, as Greg poinjts out that many people who work at the theme level do not necessarily come from a PHP background, so have another hurdle to overcome in ensuring a secure site. Fortunately, as he reiterates, it's hard to go wrong as long as we stick to the established standards. For module developers, he cautions the need to maintain a clear seperation of code from form, keeping template files as clean as possible.

Next on the plate is the Node Access system, thoroughly described in Chapter 7. My first exploration of this initially baffling framework was the concise, though somewhat cryptic, summary in Pro Drupal Developer (an excellent book, by the way, and another essential in any Drupal developer's library). Greg offers more of a leisurely walkthrough, which would have saved me hours of frustration when I first was learning that system.

The final chapter of that section, "Automated Security Testing", explores some currently available modules that should be in the bag of tricks for not only module developers, but anyone deploying a site. He describes how they can be used to test both the modules in use, and a site's custom theme, where many of the vulnerabilities in the wild can be found.

Which brings us, finally, to Part Three, "Weaknesses in the Wild". Chapter 9 offers real world examples of vulnerabilities, showing how to find not only weaknesses in contributed modules using nothing more than a search on your local cvs repository checkout, but also weaknesses in the wild, using nothing more than a Google search. Scared yet? You should be. But before you think, "Maybe Drupal's too insecure for me to use, if you can find weaknesses so easily," just remember that every contributing developer to Drupal is interested in creating and maintaining secure code, and at the very least, we can ensure our own sites will be ahead of the game if we do nothing more than keep them updated to the most secure releases as they become available.

Now for your Homework...

Your homework, if you're interested in putting your knowledge to a test, is to complete a full security audit on a 'Vulnerable' module (a dubious companion to the book), and Knaddison offers his own answers in Chapter 10, "Un-Cracking Drupal". I found this fun exercise to be informative, and it is helping me work through my own code to check for vulnerabilities.

The appendices are useful in their own right. The first appendix examines several useful core functions, explaining specifically how they help maintain security through proper usage. Greg offers useful examples of how to properly use each. The next appendix demonstrates how to create a clean (and secure!) Drupal installation. The final appendix introduces readers to the active Drupal Security Team, and to several useful resources outside the Drupal community, in the larger world of Internet security.

If you've read this far without purchasing the book yet, then get on it! You need Cracking Drupal: A Drop in the Bucket by Greg Knaddison. Your sites will be happy for it.

More than meets the eye!

Whoa!
This book does not seek to alarm you as much as it seeks to inform you.
The problem is not that Drupal is not secure. What Gregg shows is that its up to the admin to make sure that all of the security features are used properly to ensure a secure site. By showing what hackers might do the reader is informed on how to make sure that those attacks would not cause damage to their sites.
In a word, this book is PRACTICAL. And for a second word I would add ESSENTIAL.
This book is causing a lot of conversation in the Drupal community. We're all glad that it has become an easy to read, one-stop-shop to get the facts on security.

This simple and profound little guide provides wise advice on how to create a more meaningful life

There is an old saying, "When the student is ready, the teacher will appear." In the case of Dan Millman's newest book, "The Four Purposes of Life: Finding Meaning and Direction in a Changing World" it is more like, when the student is ready, the lesson will appear. I say this because I have been a fan of Millman's books and teachings since the 1980s when I read "Way of the Peaceful Warrior." I've studied his teachings, and they have influenced my own.

I've also known that this book was coming out in 2011 for quite some time, and looked forward to adding it to my library. What I didn't know was this book was for anyone seeking deeper insight into themselves and their lives, but especially for those at a crossroads, facing a challenge or change, when "business as usual" no longer applies. Just this week I embarked upon a new journey where I will face unique challenges as I accepted a position as an Executive Director of a not for profit organization that fulfills two (satisfying work and providing a useful service) of the three needs Millman discusses in the chapter on finding your career and calling. One of my challenges is to lead the organization to a place where the third need (financial income or good money) will be realized.

"The Four Purposes of Life" is a small hardcover book that contains a simple, yet profound message. Simple in that is it easy to read, and that Millman has the ability to describe complex ideas in language that make the ideas easier to grasp and implement into one's life. Profound in the fact that contemplation on the ideas presented in this short guide can have an enormous impact on one's life.

The four areas, or purposes, covered include learning life's lessons, finding your career and calling, discovering your life path, and attending to this arising moment. Each of these chapters provides insight, guidance, and stimulus to think about your own path and where you will go from here. The third purpose, discovering your life path, is a short course on the Life Purpose System that Millman detailed in his book "The Life You Were Born to Live." This system is based on your birth number, and there is an appendix to assist you with determining yours, or you can go to Millman's website to find your number. The fourth purpose, attending to this arising moment, is something Millman has written about before as well, but this chapter really hit home as I was reading it this morning. It is good to be reminded that there are no ordinary moments, and I just may reread Millman's book of that title for some deeper contemplation on this topic.

Each of us has a different path to follow, and Millman has that rare ability to offer practical guidance and insights regardless of one's chosen path. This simple and profound little guide provides wise advice on how to create a more meaningful life. The wisdom in these pages will not only help you find the passion to improve your life, but provides the inspiration to do it now.

The Best Book Yet!!!

While Dan Millman has written four(4)inspirational novels, eight(8) guidebooks, an inspirational book and two(2) children's books this book is his best, most complete book to date. It takes the best from each of the 8 guidebooks and distills them to the essence of the message. This is a book that I will give to friends and student's much as I have given away "Way of the Peaceful Warrior". It is truly a book that enables you to "find meaning and direction in a changing world".

I've been a dedicated follower of Dan's teachings for the past ten+ years, and for good reasons: they exude excellence, clarity and compassion in a way rarely found in this world. So I naturally have high standards when it comes to Dan's work, and I'm pleased to say that this book exceeded even these expectations.

In this book in particular, I sense a spiritual maturity and clarity that can probably only come from a long life well lived; I can't quite put my finger on why I have this particular impression: it could be the style, the tightness of the prose (every word in The Four Purposes seems to have a purpose in itself) or simply the energy resonance I sense between the lines. Either way, it's a gem of a book. It also distills most of Dan's teachings into a concise format—all these years, all the different directions the author explored, have been brought together into a single framework, and that's what I love about this book as well.

I sense this book in particular can be a great introductory book for newcomers to Dan's work as well. Highly recommend it.

Two on one.

This is a story of two friends reconnecting but there is a more prominent person in this duo, the WIFE!

Becky comes to town to visit her friend David and his wife Karen. David and Becky are friends who have survived a failed relationship, and they remain close through the time. One one of her visits things are revealed to David's wife Karen while partaking of food and drink and she wants to know and learn more about the games that David and Becky shared.

Becky is the kind of ex that you don't mind dealing with as she truly has no desire to break up a happy home. Karen is the kind of wife that a man would be happy to have as she didn't harbor any negative feelings towards things that happened in Becky and David's past and truly wanted to learn what made her husband tick sexually. I love how the scene came together and the things that happened. When there was a particular scene that was starting to go sideways, Becky stepped in as the experienced person to make sure nothing truly got out of hand.

I loved the two female Domme aspect of the story with the male sub. It just added to the cruelty of the situation, but it was delicious. The only aspect that made me a little apprehensive was the drinking before the games began, but as no one would be seriously injured in the telling of this story, I was able to suspend that bit of nervousness for the sake of the story. Other than that, Ms. Ford's grammar and flow of story is very smooth and I am happy that I had the chance to read this story in exchange for an honest review.

It will change your life... but do you want this new life?

The Good: For Seduction

I will first express the positive aspects of this book, read below to find out my criticisms and the danger of following these rules. Let me first start of by saying that this book does provide tons of useful information to understand the dating world, females, and males; and how they all interact together. It begins with the philosophy and biology of males and females, which adequately explains a lot of the perceptions that people hold about what "attracts" someone to another person. This is all good information. It then explains the three "traits" that women find attractive in men:

1) Confidence: confidence is the "appearance" of being confident and decisive. The author explains that you do not need to actually "be" confident, but you must appear so through your outward appearance (movements, speech, actions, etc.) Since a woman is unable to actually read your mind, you are able to express exactly the appearance you want if you aware of your actions.

2) Responsibility: responsibility includes being a leader, dominant, and essentially doing what you, the man, wants to do. This borders somewhat on concepts of confidence.

3) Charm: charm is the ability to make others, in particular women, feel good about themselves and comfortable around you. This is done through the way you talk to them, your body language, and the topics of discussion.

Now the author explains that each of these skills will assist in building attraction in a woman. I do not disagree. Matter of fact, I intentionally adopted (over a few weeks of practice) these traits and before I knew it, I had an attractive girl chasing after "me" and begging to date me. My past history: I have never dated anyone seriously, and was afraid of interacting with girls. In a short amount of time, I had girl who asked me to be her boyfriend - which I did accept. Everything sounds fine, the book produced the results it promised with the ideas it presented... or did it? Read on to hear how my story ends.

The Bad: For Long Term Relationships

The book will most likely allow you to produce attraction in nearly any girl. But what this book does NOT focus on is actually keeping a relationship, or anything more than a hookup for that matter. The book contains a sections labeled as "The Relationship," which ironically is encompassed within 6 pages out of 300 page book. It states that you should not consider any girl worth a long term relationship until you had taken her to bed. Classy. Obviously the author is not interested in actually producing a real relationship with a women that contains anything other than sex and seduction.

For those of you who are interested in a long term relationship, this is not your book. I followed these techniques to obtain an attractive woman, but eventually found myself feeling empty and manipulative since I was not truly acting how I wanted to. Would you want to keep up the facade of being perfect by constantly employing techniques a book has bestowed on you for the rest of your relationship (or even marriage!?)? The Manual may allow you to produce attraction in females, but is that really all you want? If you seek to actually share your life with someone which the two of you can mutually understand and bond, using this books "techniques" will not get you far.

Back the end of my tale. After having dated this girl for the first month, she was completely enthralled in me. However, I was not happy with me. I was constantly monitoring myself to ensure I followed these rules - which led to my discomfort and feelings of manipulation and not being real. What I really wanted was a girlfriend, not just a sexual partner. So I consciously decided to take some of the ideas of the book such as confidence and being decisive and use them while eliminating the fear of being who "I" actually am. Over the next few weeks I saw a decline in her sexual interest as well as interest in me. Coincidence? Maybe, maybe not. But either way I became more satisfied with me, while slowly losing her.

Conclusion:

Do these techniques/ideas work? Yes, I believe they do.
Should you buy The Manual and use them? Depends on what you are looking for.
1) Do you want to seduce and pickup women? Go ahead and buy this book.
2) Do you want to find a long term relationship? I would be hesitant to suggest this book.

This book doesn't teach you to be real with yourself or with your woman of interest. It encourages deception, which ultimately will lead to an unsatisfactory relationship in the long run. It is your choice, I presented my experiences with this book. Good luck.

What Women Want? Well..

Those who have seen the movie 'The Tourist' starring Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie, probably remember the train scene where the two meet for the first time.
Depp plays a seemingly very apologetic man (Frank) and Jolie a very attractive and elegant woman (Elise) and she has her reasons to make contact with Frank. She spots him as she walks through the railcar, sits down right across him and looks him straight in his eyes as he quickly closes his book and stops smoking

Frank: I'm sorry
Elise: What for?
An awkward silence follows and Frank laughs uncomfortably
Frank: Mind me smoking? It's not a real sigarette blablabla (explanatory nonsense)
Elise: That's somewhat disappointing
Frank: Would you rather have me smoking for real?
Elise: I would rather you'd be a man who did exactly as he pleased...... I'm Elise
Frank: I'm Frank
(the conversation continues until Elise suggests something
Elise: Ask me to dinner frank
Frank: What? .... Okay...Would you like to have dinner?
Elise: Women don't like questions.
Frank: Join me for dinner
Elise: Too demanding
Frank: Join me for dinner?
Elise: Another question
Frank: ....I'm having dinner, if you'd care to join me
Elise smiles and accepts

Even though most hollywood movies dramatically misrepresent what women want in men, this scene brilliantly paints what women truly desire in men. And reading this book directly reminded me of this scene. If you want to become the type of man that Jolie describes in this scene, than this book will show you how to become that exact man. No gimmicks, no tricks, no scripts, no bs, only what's truly necessary to understand. What women want is not that complicated, you just have to be presented the right information.

I've become very successful with women myself through some critical self improvement, but I still like to read books like these from time to time. And this book has instantly become part of my top three books I'd recommend to any man looking to improve his dating life (the other two being How to Become an Alpha Male: Attract Women and Become Successful at Seduction and Models: A Comprehensive Guide to Attracting Women)

In this day and age so much dating advice equals a lot of clutter to go through just to get some useful information that will truly help. I've absorbed about all I could get my hands on. From pickup advice to advice by self proclaimed naturals to advice by female dating coaches, I've even taken two live courses by two different dating companies. So take it from a guy who knows what he is talking about. If there is a book that you should read, if you want the answer to what women want, if you want to learn how to be a real man that women can appreciate, then this is the book for you.

As for those writing skeptical reviews about this book without actually having read it and to those who are in doubt about the credibility of this book, I didn't get paid for this, I've also reviewed another book on here some time ago and I'm being honest with you when I tell you that you'll truly get your moneys worth out of this one.

Big ups to W. Anton for putting in the time and effort to create this masterpiece.

Alright, I had to laugh at the guy claiming that this book sucked. I personally loved the book. No, it wasn't a "hold your hand and give you the cookie cutter outline" of how to meet and communicate with women. What it was, was simple. The book delves into the mindset of a man, vs a male.

The most important thing I took away from this book was that I need to stop being a "nice guy". I have been too nice. I am a man. I had better start acting like it. All of my girlfriends and my getting married came from how I was putting myself forward in a confident way. I didn't do any of it consciously.
After my wife leaving me with our five children, I chose to make the effort to figure out what in the hell had happened and why.
I learned from my studies that I wasn't the man that she had married. I recognize this now. I wasn't happy in the marriage anyway, so go figure.
The point is that I realized from reading this book that what had gotten me the girls up to that point and since was the confidence that I exuded.

Mr. Anton has done is create a manual about how you should be yourself and not try and be someone else. Don't be a pickup artist. Be a man that gets women. It is as simple as that.
I finished the book,(Yes, every page, all the way through) and have already been getting smiles and looks of appreciation from women that are younger and more attractive than any woman I have ever dated, even when I got married at 23 (I am now 39).

I highly recommend this book if you are wanting to be more of a Man and learn how to be yourself and confidently attract and communicate with beautiful women.
