About the Author
Samih Al-Qasim was a critically acclaimed poet, essayist, and journalist. An outspoken advocate of Palestinian rights, he was imprisoned several times for his writing. He published numerous poetry collections, including Sadder Than Water: New and Selected Poems, the only other book-length English translation of his work.

`Abdulwahid Lu’lu’a is an Iraqi writer based in the United Kingdom, whose previous translations have won a range of literary prizes. He has published twelve books in Arabic and forty-two books in translation, all on literary subjects.

About the Author
Robert M. Monczka, Ph.D., is the former Distinguished Research Professor of Supply Chain Management in the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University and Professor Emeritus at the Eli Broad Graduate School of Management, Michigan State University. He also served as director of Strategic Sourcing and Supply Chain Strategy Research at CAPS Research, where he led initiatives focused on sourcing and supply strategy innovation, development, and implementation. A frequent speaker at professional meetings, Dr. Monczka has published more than 200 books and articles. He has consulted worldwide with leading companies in the Fortune 100 and has received two National Science Foundation grants to study supply strategy.

Robert B. Handfield, Ph.D., is Bank of America University Distinguished Professor of Supply Chain Management in the College of Management at North Carolina State University. He also is Co-Director of the Supply Chain Resource Cooperative (http:// scrc.ncsu.edu). Dr. Handfield serves as Consulting Editor of the Journal of Operations Management and is on the editorial board of several leading academic journals. His research focuses on strategic sourcing, supply market intelligence, supplier relationship management, and sourcing overseas. Larry C. Giunipero, Ph.D., CPSM, CPM, is Professor of Purchasing and Supply Chain Management at Florida State University. He has published more than 60 articles in various academic journals. James L. Patterson, Ph.D., C.P.M., A.P.P., is Assistant Dean and Associate Professor of Supply Chain Management in the College of Business and Technology at Western Illinois University - Quad Cities. A Michigan State University Ph.D. alumnus in SCM, he holds lifetime C.P.M. and A.P.P. credentials from the Institute for Supply Management. He also serves as President of the Quad-City Foreign Trade Zone #133 and has twice been honored as Outstanding Teacher of the Year for WIU's CBT and four times in WHO'S WHO AMONG AMERICA'S TEACHERS. Great reference work

If you want one book explaining state-of-the-art thinking in procurement, this is the one. It has chapters on every important topic. It's not a book I would choose to read from beginning to end to learn about purchasing (unless I were a University student) but it's a good starting point for looking deeper into many topics.

I completed my SPSM Certification through the NLPA and immediately ordered Purchasing and Supply Chain Management 6th Edition by Monczka, Handfield, Giunipero and Patterson. After carefully reviewing the text, it has become apparent to me that this is going to be my go to volume reference for the remainder of my career. It is both comprehensive and relevant, and an indispensable tool for today's senior professional in supply chain management. 5 stars.

Awesome bridal shower gift!

I bought this as a gift for a bridal shower. I don't know the bride too well and I wasn't sure how naughty her gifts would be, but it's a bridal shower so it's supposed to be a little naughty, right? Anyway, it was a big hit. It was the only naughty gift she received, everyone else got her kitchen stuff. I did my research before buying one of these cookbooks. There were several out there, but this one seemed to have the best recipes and was very well organized and appealing. It makes a great gift!

I Took a Leap of Faith and was Rewarded

A friend of mine turned me on (ha ha) to this book when I was frantically looking for a suitable bridal shower gift for my sister. I ordered it a few days early with the intent to try out one of the recipes so that I knew the quality of what I was getting her.

I was not disappointed. In fact, my mind was blown.

I found a recipe for braised quail with grapes and pancetta. I arranged for the children to be away, spent a wonderfully furious hour and a half in the kitchen, and served up one of THE most memorable meals I have ever had--better even than eating at most top notch restaurants in town and at a fraction of the cost.

None of the ingredients in our recipe were aphrodisiacs in and of themselves, but my husband and I spent the entire meal exclaiming over the flavors, licking our fingers, and grinning at one another in an ecstasy of sensory marvels.

Needless to say, the cookbook was a huge hit at the shower, and I am now ordering a copy for myself. Valentine's dinner will be cooked from this book this year!

This is a fantastic cookbook

My friend bought this book for me on a lark, but 5 or more years later, I keep coming back to these recipes. I have friends begging me to make them chicken and asparagus black-bean enchiladas again. And the black russian cake is so good, it is actually dangerous because I cannot keep myself or my husband out of it. The tomato basil soup is a regular winter staple at my house. And the book is back on my desk because with the absolute success I have had using this book, I've got to try some more recipes.

Advanced yet Simple

This is a well written book about Clojure and its ecosystem. There's no other book that explains reducers, transducers, core.async and core.logic with the level of detail as described in this book. All code examples are well explained and give the reader a good idea of what real world Clojure code looks like.

I stayed up all night reading this book

I couldn't put this book down. I've never stayed up all night reading a book. I felt such sympathy for the characters of this book that I just wanted to reach out and touch them. For anyone who has ever felt their love of another was forbidden due to what was acceptable, you'll love this book. I love the timeframe of the book, the story line, the characters, and the love scenes were so SWEET EVERLASTING. This is the first Patricia Gaffney book that I have read, but it definitely won't be the last.

Great Gaffney!

Another beautiful love story by Gaffney - one of her very best and most poignant, I believe. Carrie is impoverished and lonely, a lovely mute whose silence harbors a dark secret. Tyler is the new town doctor, sensitive and kind, lively and intelligent. Carrie responds to Tyler's kindness with shy, yet unabashed adoration, but Tyler fights his growing attraction for this young innocent. Of course she doesn't belong to his social class, but the scruples Tyler struggles with are more complicated than mere social convention; Carrie is fragile, innocent, damaged, and mute, and it would be morally reprehensible of him, he believes, to succumb to the passionate feelings she sparks within him and take advantage of her seemingly uncomplicated trust. What Tyler isn't aware of, however, is that Carrie's heart is strong enough for the both of them. A very tender and memorable story.

Did not want it to end!!

Never before was a book so aptly named as this one. The reason I say this is because this was the sweetest story I have ever read. It is a heart-wrenching story and so beautifully written it makes the heart ache.
This is the story of Dr. Tyler Wilkes and Carrie Wiggins. Tyler is the wealthy son of an old, aristocratic Philadelphia family. He gives up a life of wealth and privilege to become a doctor agaisnt his mother's wishes. He moves to the small town of Wayne's Crossing to take over the practice from the town's previous doctor who is gravely ill.
Carrie is a poor girl who lives in a cabin with her abusive stepfather high up on High Dreamer mountain above the small town of Wayne's Crossing. Upon meeting Carrie, Tyler is not immediately attracted to her in a romantic sense but in a professional sense. Carrie, you see, is mute and Tyler wants very much to help her bur Carrie continually refuses it. Tyler begins to think there's more to the pretty, shy Carrie than meets the eye. Slowly and little by little Tyler gets to know Carrie even though she cannot speak. Once he gets to know her, Tyler is amazed that despite her handicap and the hardships she has suffered Carrie is high spirited, kind, strong and able to take pleasure in the little things in life. Eventually, they become lovers and in spite of his attraction and growing affection for her, Tyler cannot turn his back on what has been ingrained in him since birth: he must marry according to his social status. In short, marrying Carrie would be beneath him.
Carrie wears her heart on her sleeve and it's no secret to Tyler that she loves him without condition or any strings attached. Carrie has learned early on not to expect too much from life but deep inside she can't quench the budding hope that Tyler will learn to love her as much as she loves him.
This is a beautiful, emotional love story full of twists and turns and breathtaking romance. Ms. Gaffney makes the characters come alive in such a way that you feel as if you personally know them. I am almost tempted to say this is my favorite Gaffney romance. However, having read most of her backlist I can't pick just one because all of her books are so radically different from one another. I guess they're all my favorites, each and every one. If you love romance, do yourself a favor and pick up this book or any book by this brilliant author. :)

Trujilo-every Dominican over 50 still knows him.

I started traveling the Dominican Republic in the mid 1980's and first came across this book in an airport in Puerto Plata. After reading it I became even more interested in this person who so dominated this beautiful island for over 30 years. I had a driver who was (and still is) a keen observer of Dominican politics and history. He showed me where the Mirabel sisters where murdered and gave me a sense of what it was like to grow up in country where if you missed school a couple of days in a row your parents would receive that dreaded knock on the door at 0200 in the morning. I think this book gives one a sense of what kind of animal Trujillo was. For most of this, Trujillo's life is ancient history but god help us if there is another like him on todays political landscape.

By far the most complete book on the Trujillo era

This is by far the best and most complete book on the long 30 years of the Trujillo regime. Althought not Dominican, I have read several book which are very good. Including the excellent The Feast of the Goat by Mario Vargas Llosa, that is a novel, but nevertheless is based, fundamentally, on very solid facts of the times. However, Crassweller's book is really first among its peers. It is objective, well researched, and, as humanly possible, very objective. Crassweller obviosly had access to State Department sources and documents, which are cited in a generous manner. A must read for anybody interested in the matter.

Caribbean dictators

I would recommend this book to anyone interested in the story of the Caribbean and a look at the position the United States has taken in relation to the conflicts and abuses bestowed on these nations. It is an excellent read. Interesting, specific facts and very little, if almost none, editorializing.
It's a shame it hasn't been reedited. I read it in loan from a local library.

essential reading

For any Catholic attempting to make sense of the current auto-demolition in the Catholic Church, Randy Engel's monumental work, The Rite of Sodomy is absolutely essential.
Although I was familiar with Engel's previous work and had great respect for her integrity and research skills, for years I resisted her books on the sexual abuse crisis in the Church. It was just a case of too much information about a subject that threatened to destroy my faith.
In addition, the very title, containing as it does a word I had difficulty even speaking aloud, much less enshrine on my bookcase, put me off.
But eventually, with about the same enthusiasm I have for cleaning up a patient's vomitus, I purchased and read the books.
And now, I can tell you, read The Rite of Sodomy for yourself, buy more copies and give them to Bishops, especially volume V.
Ms. Engel has produced a scholarly work that documents the downfall of the Catholic Church. Her work is almost mind-numbingly detailed and researched and documented. The footnotes and bibliography and index are possibly more extensive than the text itself.
Even if you aren't a Catholic, The Rite of Sodomy will shed valuable light on the processes going on today that are using same sex attraction to wreck our country's culture and push us all a bit further along the road to tyranny.
The one thing Ms. Engel omitted and I hope will address in a future book, is the connection between the Vatican's surrender to sodomy and the Message of Fatima. According to many sources, the apostasy would begin at the top, and sins of impurity would be the major problem. Both of those point to the possibility that the plague of sodomy in the Church is a part of the chastisement for the Church's disobedience.
It's really a shame that this review has to come from me. I am not very good at these things, but Ms. Engel's work deserves to be more widely read, and by posting this, I hope that others will read her books if only just to refute my poor efforts. I hope someone will, if you do, you'll understand why she chose that title and why she has spent years documenting this phenomenon and its toxic effects on the Church and our culture.

The truth is here and referenced

So much research and effort has gone into this series! It definitely needed to be written and is so professionally done. Randy Engel has provided enough information for any investigations to be pursued. Hopefully the hierarchy will READ it.

A Highly Researched Series on the Sexual Abuse of Children in the Catholic Church.

This review pretty much includes the whole series. FIrst of all, especially the last two installments, volumes 4 and 5, the data that Ms. Engel writes about, can be found in the numerous files on www.Bishopaccountability.org. The only reason I offer that link is that Ms. Engels' books were completed in the mid-2000's when most of the sexual abuse cases she describes weren't adjudicated before it went to press. Most of the individual abuser priest, nuns and brothers she presented in her books are not new to the reader who has kept up on the abuse scandal on their own. What is new is the intransigence of the Vatican prior to and after the heyday of the abuse, primarily in the late 60's through the 80's. Also, the bishops, archbishops and cardinals who were keeping the proverbial lid on the abuse needed to be arrested for allowing the abuse to be hidden.

As far as the accusations of homosexuality in the papacy are concerned, I'm still not convinced that Pope Paul Vi was homosexual. His actions and behaviors certainly pointed to being homosexual, but he had never been caught in the act of sex with another male. Of course that in itself is no indication of him leading a homosexual lifestyle, but it would make the Catholic church's stand on homosexual relationships considerably arrogant.

I enjoyed (if that is the correct way of describing a book that has descriptive homosexual acts) the books, but I thought the data needs to be updated by Ms. Engel's. I also might point out that Ms. Engel's is not a drive by journalist who wanted to grind her sword on her thigh, to steal a verse from the Psalms, she is a highly respected journalist and a staunch Catholic supporter of the Pro-Life movement, and it shows in her writing of these books.
