A MYSS-MISS MIX OF FUZZY MYSTICISM AND JUNG AND FREUD:)

I like Carolyn Myss and her works through the years. I even do not mind her arrogant attitude. As a surgeon myself I LIKE blunt and to-the-point. But this book to me is a Myss-MISS--pardon the pun. It is really the Archetype book and Anatomy of the Spirit in cliff-notes combined with some fuzzy versions of Eastern Mysticism, chakra analogies (that contradict many of the Eastern philosophies she is quoting)...and the blather just goes on and on. 3/4 of the way through the book I just was not INTERESTED in it enough to continue reading it--rare for me as I read like fire and consume spiritual books:) I also wholeheartedly DISagree that EVERYONE has at least 4 Archetypes in their psyche. That is a rather bold arrogant move to appoint herself supreme ruler...:) I think she has become too beeg fer her britches here and this book---as I said, it is a Myss MISS.

One of my favorite books!

I've been reading and listening to Caroline Myss since discovering her two cassette (Yes, for you younger folks, those were bulky plastic tapes we listened to before CDs and digital streams.) presentation "Spiritual Madness" at a video store. (Those were the days. *Sigh*) Her work has enlightened me and helped me through all kinds of crises. She has also helped me realize that conventional religion doesn't work for me. I believe "Spiritual Madness" is her best work. It focuses on archetypes and how each of us has a unique combination of them that provides both an understanding and a pathway for how to live and interact with each other. Caroline never pulls punches -- I've seen her in person, too -- as she describes the various archetypes and explains how important it is to look beyond ego and vanity to find your true self. Myss isn't a New Age guru, she's Caroline Myss -- teacher, mystic, medical intuitive, and one of the most fascinating people I've ever met.

Only buy if you're also willing to buy Myss' archetype cards and/or archetype book

I like the idea of working with archetypes to uncover patterns, choice points, and--in Myss' language--the best possible outcome with one's "sacred contract." The book spends considerable time on developing an archetypal chart of 12 characters for individuals to explore his/her own sacred contract. Here's the rub: Myss only writes about 4 archetypes in detail (child, victim, prostitute, saboteur)--the rest one has to either guess at OR buy further Myss products because they aren't addressed the book--making the book incomplete otherwise. Very disappointing.

A sturdy, inexpensive printing of an excellent textbook

I teach a course in Applied Statistics (Computer Science and Software Engineering) using this book. The book's explanations are clear, the examples are well-chosen and there is a large collection of exercises. There are answers for about half the exercises in the back of the book, and the publisher sells a reasonably-priced student manual with full solutions to this half of the exercises.

In this note, I'm reviewing the 8th Economy Edition, an Asian reprint of the American book that sells at a much lower cost. Several of my students use this edition instead of the American 8th and I have a copy of it. The book is paperback, so it is not indestructible, but all of the copies I've seen are standing up well to heavy use. The print is clear. The graphics are greyscale rather than the American edition's color, but I don't see any resulting ambiguity or loss of information. Overall, this edition appears to be a fully-functional substitute for the full-price textbook.

Recommend purchasing any other statistics book

As a former student of statistics, I do not recommend purchasing this text. The book possesses multiple grammatical errors (many of which confuse the context of the problem), multiple incorrect answers provided in the back of the book, and multiple mistakes in the given information for a problem. This book will utilize variables without explanation, pose "real world" problems with little to no contextual background required to solve the problem, and skip many important topics vital to real world applications. I am currently writing to the editor in an effort to receive a refund for this book. I would NOT recommend this text to any student or professional.

Not Good

This is probably the second worst textbook I have ever read. I have struggled through the third chapter. In some cases, the text seems as though it was written for elementary school math covering set therory: extremely detailed and excessively verbose. In other cases, the text throws out examples without explaining any reasoning, or any how or why a formula is used.

The text continually refers to examples in previous sections, which forces the reader to search back through the text. The interuption is distracting and annoying. In many cases, the page numbers where the example can be found are not given. The text also does this with the exercises, forcing the student to wear-out the pages. Sometimes, I feel as though I need two copies of the textbook so I don't waste so much time thumbing back and forth.

I have ended up reading and re-reading the text while trying to understand some of the concepts and rational. In some areas, the author does not explain anything. While other times, the text continues for pages explaining things that an elementry school graduate should know. I am waiting to see multiplication tables in future chapters. All the while, some college level information is brushed-over. I typically need to work several exercises and beat my head against the wall a few times until I go ah ha! Why didn't the author explain this.

With textbooks like this, it is no wonder engineers have a reputation for poor communication skills.

Great book to have for a go to for what to use essential oils for.

So many more ways to use aromatherapy than I thought. With that, more than once recipe for the same thing. I like that there are multiple recipes involved for if I'm out of an oil or not keen on a certain scent, I have more than one option. Throughout the book you get breakdowns and how to's without reading an portion and than questioning what you've just read. For each formula that is stated in the book, you have a short paragraph to point out some good FYIs so you're aware of it prior to making the formula. Some of them I never would have thought of so it was a nice little insert. And like I said, it's right there at the beginning of the formula so there is no missing it. Upon having the formulas throughout the book, in the back, you have the breakdown of the essential oils and their core uses so you can branch off into your own. I did receive this at a discounted rate for my unbiased review. My opinion was not influenced by the discount that I received.

This book is probably a decent addition to an essential oil book guide/ wiki. I will not recommend any beginners to read this book without reading more about essential oils from other books or sources, as this book is just a plain recipe book. The reason I rated two stars because this book is super boring for my like, the size is large and the layout is just not my favorite. No pictures as well. This book in general reminds me to my text book for school. This book is also kinda "overprice" for the quality of printing. Read with CAUTIONS that's all I can recommend. Some of the recipes are not safe for children. But on the bright side, this book is easy to follow, even thou most of them are just useless to me.

Only Small Section of Recipes Strictly for the Diffuser. No Info On Mixing & Blending.

This book is just Ok. First off, the book is quite large in size, 8 x 11 inches. For my purposes i wanted a smaller recipe type book to keep next to my boxes of oils as an easy reference guide for my older children who are just beginning to diffuse and always asking me which oils can be mixed and how much, etc. Unfortunately, this book doesn't quite fit the bill. Given the title I expected it to be maily recipes for the diffuser, which it is not. It goes into quite a few different areas for making other products that we have no interest in as far as the recipes go. I was looking for a book that went into the notes and blending; top, middle, base, etc. something that would give them a good foundation for mixing and blending oils for diffusing that they could really learn from, but you won't find that here.

Overall a disappointment. Also worth mentioning is the amount of paper v.s. spacing used in this book. This book could have been condensed, cut in half I suspect, simply by refraining from double, triple spacing and the number of blank and half blank pages. We are from Oregon where we lovingly conserve our trees, so in this area this book gets a big thumbs down from us. There is far more paper here than there is information.

Very smooth, very sexy...

There are people who write erotica and then there are people who WRITE erotica. Risqu� is the latter. After a pretty long wait since `Red Light Special' we are taken back to the world that only Risqu� can write. It's not just the erotica that makes her work great, it's everything else. How she fits so much into 250 pages is the magic she creates. How good is this book? I finished it in two days. I know, I know, I know, big deal right? Well for me it is Mr. & Mrs. Condescending. SO THERE!

Lyfe seems to have it all. An exceptionally good job, an exceptionally freaky wife, an exceptionally large bank account, and an exceptionally large endowment (and I'm not talking about the Arts). Problem is his woman is more of a man than Hulk Hogan. Not in the physical sense but Payton is `HBIC' and if you question it she'll damn near shoot you. Lyfe is reformed thug and you can imagine that dichotomy between those two. They fight hard, sex harder, and we get to witness it all.

Arri is a voluptuous walking definition of sex who is a secretary by day and a web-cam hottie by night. Her boss? Lyfe. I'm sure you can put two and two together. Risqu� is known for her drama and her twists so put on your seatbelt and turn off your airbag. "Hell hath no fury as a woman scorned". The twist is finding out who that woman is. Pay attention grasshopper because the ending is wicked. Risque' continues her special blend of everything in this, her latest novel `Smooth Operator'.

BRIEF SUMARY
Lyfe is a successful businessman that came from nothing and made a name for himself with the help of his wife, Payton. He went from an UPS driver to the vice president of his wife's company. Arri has been on her own at a young age since her mother abandon her family. As a secretary by day and working the webcam at night, Arri does what she needs to do to help support her nephew. When both Lyfe and Arri's life intertwine, they will have to go up against a very jealous wife, who stops at nothing to get what she wants.

THOUGHTS

With friends and lovers like these, who needs enemies. Definitely, a tangle web was weaved with these characters in the way the author brought them together. With five main characters, I think sex was the sixth main character in this book, everyone was doing it, and it was used as a deadly weapon.

Payton, Lyfe's wife, wants him to run the New York office of her corporation for a while to oversee things. Her motive soon becomes clear once he is in New York, and thus starts the drama of everyone's life. Lyfe was definitely sexy, and dealing with a crazy wife, it brought out his dark and rough side. Payton was controlling, disgusting, crazy, psychotic, and sick in the head, enough of her. Arri is a provider for her and her nephew, and does what she has to do to survive and pay the bills. With her past, Arri finds herself unable to be close with anyone. So, when she connects with Lyfe, their chemistry was great and is worth the read. Quinton and Dominique's characters defiantly brought an interesting twist to the story.

The first four pages onwards, double wow. What a way to start a book, the moment the story starts, it dives right in, literally. In addition, if you thought chapter one ended with a bang, chapter two with Arri did not disappoint at all. It felt as though the author was showing us what everyone was working with.

I enjoyed this book and it's definitely up there with my taste in books. If you're looking for a morally and sweet romance, this is not the book for you. Also, note to reader, some sex scenes may not be to some readers liking.

Payton Anderson was a rich widower that became the CEO of Anderson Global and personally handpicks the finer than fine Lyfe Carrington, a mere UPS driver from Crenshaw to become her spouse and eye candy. Arrielle `Arri' Askew is a single mom employed at Anderson Global by day and moonlights as the Smooth Operator by night. Payton is a demanding, controlling diva that wants what she wants when she wants it and Lyfe has found out he isn't cut out for the demeaning temperaments that his wife likes to exhibit. Reluctantly Lyfe travels to the New York office as Payton bitchily requests for business purposes but upon his arrival, the magnetism that flares between he and Arri is undeniable. Quinton and Dominique King are basically married in name only...the question how long before Quinton's continuous infidelity and disrespect push Dominique into a life of reckless behavior? Anderson Global and its New York employees will never be the same once Lyfe Carrington and his charismatic aura saunters into their safe haven.

The question remains: Will Payton's cruel streak be able to destruct more lives or will her reign of tyranny dissolve like the Wicked Witch of the West? Arri has always been the sacrificial lamb, will she finally be granted a pass with a happiness of her very own? Can the hilariously holy remain holy with a tamborine while breaking bread in the midst of cheaters, murderers, adulterers, manipulators, and a slew of perpetrators? Can a real man maintain his dignity, integrity, and intellect as well as his freedom when he discovers that he's basically sold his soul to the devil? Who's real...who's fake...who's playing...who's following the rules...who does the rules really apply to...who's to be the victim and why...who knows the secrets that don't even realize that they're secrets...who's move will be the winning one and who will be the last person standing with a bag of disgust, distrust, and total disdain? Suspense, drama, scandalous behavior, passion, betrayal, outrage, lust, recklessness, despair, and incredible humor all adorn this impressive novel. These are all the ingredients poured into the 234 pages penned by the illustrious and unequivocally talented Risque'. Risque' has yet again mastered erotica and elevated her status with some of the most sexually vibrant, steamy, and down right explicit acts to be put on paper and will cause you to blush in the midst of reading this superbly written sizzler!
